I have allergies. Is carpet a good idea for my home?

So one question we get a lot here is whether or not carpet’s a good idea for a home where someone may have allergies. And the answer is it actually is a good idea.

A lot of times we want to replace carpeting with some sort of hard surface, maybe hardwood and unless the allergy is really acute, the carpet acts as a filter and so a lot of the allergens that might be floating around are going to get caught then in the carpet and the vacuumed up.

And as long as you have a vacuum that uses a HEPA filter, then those allergens are going to get taken out of the house and not be floating around and really maybe cause more allergies.
